How does payment work for students?
You pay per service when you book — essay editing or a video session. The price you see is the price you pay; no fees are added at checkout, and no single order ever exceeds $60.
How is essay editing priced?
Each mentor sets their own editing price, up to $50 per essay. Editing is billed by length up to 700 words, so short essays cost proportionally less and you never pay for more than 700 words.
How much do mentors keep?
Mentors keep 87% of essay-edit orders and 82% of live video sessions. Luminao takes a small cut off the top (13% on edits, 18% on video) to run payments, video, scheduling, and support — no setup or monthly fees.
How do mentors set their prices?
There are no tiers. Mentors set their own prices up to a universal cap — $50 per essay edit and $60 per hour of video. What a mentor earns in visibility is driven by their reviews: higher-rated mentors rank higher in search, while new mentors attract their first clients by pricing low.
Is there a discount for first-time students?
Yes — your first booking is 15% off, applied automatically. The platform funds this; your mentor still earns their full rate.
When do mentors get paid?
Payouts arrive within about 2 business days of a completed session, straight to the mentor's connected bank account.
